Swiss CNC Machines PDF Print E-mail

Gent Machine uses a pair of Citizen A20 Swiss Lathes with LNS Express automatic bar loaders. They have a 20 mm capacity and are Swiss style CNCs (Computer Numerically Controlled) which, compared to Conventional, support the material directly at the point of the cut. Therefore, our Swiss CNCs hold dimensions within tenths of a thousandth of an inch and down to stock sizes around 1/16” in diameter. Our Citizens are (typically, but not always) used for smaller quantity orders requiring tight tolerances, fine finishes and hard materials. They are also used to run extremely difficult parts, which require multiple cuts, asymmetrical milling and drilling, off center milling, and many other operations our Davenports could not handle. These Swiss CNCs are a very welcoming addition to our plant and we’re excited at the direction they will take us in the future of manufacturing.

Our A20s are equipped with a Long Parts Device, High Pressure System, Mist Buster, and fire suppression system. All of these devices play an integral role in ensuring our parts are made efficiently and conform to specifications. They also allow us to make parts our competitors can’t match, at prices our competitors can’t match. The Long Parts device allows us to make parts like our 13” spindle or even a 20” shaft. All we do is cut, feed the part, re-chuck, feed, and repeat. The High Pressure System mixes our cutting oil with 1400 psi of chip breaking power. The system provides lines, which are aimed directly on the tool, to break and remove chips therefore providing chip control, a better finish and a decrease in cutting/drilling time. The Mist Buster was an aftermarket addition. After losing gallons of expensive cutting oil (into vapor) from the high pressure system, we decided to purchase the Mist Buster. Since then our cutting oil levels have remained consistent and reduced the amount of refills and hence our oil costs.

Another wonderful attribute of these machines is their ability to run after hours, unattended. To ensure safety and security we installed a Firetrace fire suppression system. This protects us from any fire in the machine anytime of the day. However, as an extra precaution we also installed an internet based/controlled camera. Now we’re able to monitor our machines 24/7 and avoid any unforeseen issues. Our entire Swiss turning division can be seen and monitored from any location in the world. This, once again, allows us to run efficiently and effectively and ensure our customers parts continually conform to specification.
