  1. Aerospace industry slowdown not affecting contract manufacturers

Comments Off on Aerospace industry slowdown not affecting contract manufacturers

Readers are abundant within our company. Now that COVID-19 has affected our lives, we’ve had to communicate even more with our employees. There are various tools to communicate during these challenging times, but we have been making good use of our bulletin boards. Sound old fashioned? Keep in mind that the majority of personnel in a machine shop do not have a personal computer at work. In fact, some choose not to have one, rather than it be about the money. Unlike the aerospace industry, we have not slowed down so the majority of our workforce has remained at work so we are happy to use non contact methods to communicate our messages.

Here is a sampling of the information we are ensuring we communicate on our bulletin boards:

    1. Celebrations, such as birthdays and work anniversaries
    2. Handwashing information
    3. COVID-19 Best Practices Policy
    4. Coronavirus health updates
    5. Employee Rights under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act
    6. Medical carrier updates
    7. Our core values
    8. Contests
    9. Ease at Work, which is our Employee Assistance Program
    10. Wellness Program
    11. Shift changes
    12. #inthistogether Ohio poster

For the few employees that may not be back to the shop floor yet, we’re letting them know they are greatly missed. We expect this furlough to be temporary and hope that the slowdown the aerospace industry doesn’t come back to affect us (https://www.flightglobal.com/systems-and-interiors/slow-recovery-suppliers-to-be-hit-hard-aerospace-leaders-predict/137930.article). If it does then we will weather the storm just as we have in the past. We would reduce production but increase our cleaning efforts. A cleaner facility leads to improved efficiency.

We look forward to communicating face to face again with our customers and our employees. Until then, we will wear our masks, continue to practice social distancing and use the abundance of tools we are so fortunate to have at our fingertips.

    Stay well!

  2. Ventilator Production – Brass Fitting

Comments Off on Ventilator Production – Brass Fitting

Gent Machine is supporting the effort to move ventilators into hospitals ASAP. We received an order to produce a brass fitting for a ventilator just over a week ago. Gent Machine was able to start production in 7 business days due to the support of our great suppliers and employees. Our typical lead time from order to production is 6-8 weeks. A shout out to the following vendors who helped expedite this process.

    • Admiral Metals in MA who supplied us the 11/16” hex brass bars
    • Jergens in Cleveland supplied us with special taps by North American Tool
    • Davon Tool in Perry, OH ground the special drills
    • LCM Tool in CT made the form and shave tools
    • And Thread Check in NY made the special thread gauge in just one day

Although not very complex, this part required five vendors to ensure this was a top priority in their organization. Finally, thank you to our employees who are at Gent Machine to receive the raw materials and tools, set up the machine, run the parts, wash the parts, and pack the parts to be shipped out the door. This brass fitting is but one of a few hundred parts that go into producing a ventilator, so this process is being repeated by hundreds of suppliers around the USA. It is amazing what can be done when everyone works together with a single purpose. A big THANK YOU to all the healthcare workers on the front line who put their lives at risk more than anyone. You are being supported across the country by American Manufacturers who are essential to fighting COVID-19.

  3. Ventilator and respirator orders for COVID-19 effort skyrocket

Comments Off on Ventilator and respirator orders for COVID-19 effort skyrocket

On Friday evening, March 20th, Gent Machine received an order from a new customer. This request was more than just a new order from a new customer. This order was for parts to serve the healthcare industry, specifically for ventilators and respirators. As we all know time is of the essence in the fight against COVID-19 and we are happy to do our part in helping. We hope this little contribution on our part will aid in the recovery of many people from this terrible virus.

    Stay healthy!

  4. Supplying Critical Industries, Despite DeWine Covid 19 “stay at home” order

Comments Off on Supplying Critical Industries, Despite DeWine Covid 19 “stay at home” order

On Sunday March 24th, Governor DeWine issued a “stay at home” in order to continue to minimize the spread of COVID-19. This meant that all non-essential business must close. As a supplier to the defense industry and several other critical industries, Gent Machine will remain open. We will, however, heed the direction of our Governor and implement strict requirements to our employees to maintain social distancing, wash hands often for 20 seconds and limit the number of people in a room at one time. We will continue to adjust our operations and the news changes.

    Stay healthy!

  5. Core Values are a Compass During Unprecedented Times

Comments Off on Core Values are a Compass During Unprecedented Times

How are your company’s core values aiding your company during these uncertain times? Gent Machine worked hard developing a list of five core values during its strategic, operational, and cultural planning last year. While newly introduced to the entire company at our annual company meeting, having our core values in place during these difficult times provides a concrete focus and reference for our decision making and our treatment of each other. We are honored to share our core values of:

    • Quality – in everything we do
    • Integrity – doing the right thing, not always the easy thing
    • Teamwork – helping each other to learn and grow
    • Positivity – you bring the positive attitude, we will provide the job opportunities
    • Respect – to each other and in your work

We look forward to following these values now and in less turbulent times.

    Stay healthy!

  6. Covid 19 Safety Practices Avoid Machining Shut Down

Comments Off on Covid 19 Safety Practices Avoid Machining Shut Down

Due to COVID-19 many events, schools and groups have either cancelled, postponed or are now communicating remotely. As a manufacturing company, Gent Machine cannot respond in this manner. We hope that our safety practices and diligence of our employees keep us safe from the virus and keep our production running. Only time will tell but as of now we are forging on.

    Stay healthy and stay safe.

  7. Protecting Employees from Coronavirus at Work

Comments Off on Protecting Employees from Coronavirus at Work

Much like the rest of the world, Gent Machine has created and rolled out a plan for the coronavirus. We want our employees to feel safe at work and know their job is safe if they come into contact or contract the virus. Since the virus is spread like any other virus, from animal/person to person via droplets we have done the following:

    • Posted notices for everyone to wash their hands frequently and for 20 seconds
    • Put 5-6 feet between each other when talking to one another
    • Wipe down all non-personal computers after use
    • Elbow bump or something else rather than shake hands
    • Limit meetings to smaller groups
    • Placed hand sanitizer and cleansing wipes around the shop
    • We’ve propped open doors where the handles are regularly touched
    • Required our employees to self quarantine if they are in contact with someone that tests positive for the virus. They would not receive points or need to use PTO if this is the case.
    • Continually communicate updated coronavirus information from the CDC

As we said to our employees, please be safe and always remember to wash your hands before eating or touching your face.

  8. Manufacturing Workforce Welcomes 2020

Comments Off on Manufacturing Workforce Welcomes 2020

We are just days away from entering a new decade. The previous decade has been great for manufacturing and we anticipate it to only get better. The US economy remains strong for manufacturing and some local organizations are helping beef up the manufacturing workforce. This is key for US manufacturing companies to continue to thrive. Gent Machine is happy to be a part of this growth and proud to help our youth and other groups receive the guidance needed to form a career in manufacturing.

    Happy New Year!
